Understanding Your Audience

The next step I take is to understand the website’s prospective audience. Today’s digital world is rife with impatient browsers. People on the whole do not have the time or incentive to wait for hassles such as slow loading pages or badly structured websites. You may find you are one of them whilst browsing – I know I am. When people enter new websites they want to know who you are and what you offer immediately, without having to search further than even the opening window of your home page for the answer.

There are also a number of subconscious features, which play an even more important role. When people are intending to spend their money they want it to be with someone they can trust. The Internet has built a bad reputation over the past decade as a place where fraud, illegal material and breaches of privacy are commonplace. It is no wonder that many people, especially inexperienced online buyers, think twice before handing their credit card details over. What your website needs to adopt is a way of presenting itself to the subconscious, as well as the conscious mind. You need to reinforce your image as a trustworthy, reliable and well based company - and this is done best visually.
