My Guidelines
When I am building up the profile of a client’s website for a new prospective design I take into account many unrelated but collectively important points relative to it’s service and therefore target audience. Whilst some may think that I go to great lengths to achieve the best result I feel it should be done if a near-perfect look (nothing is entirely perfect) is to be achieved. You may also find my guidelines of interest, of which some of the key ones are as follows...
01. A Friendly Welcome
People do not want to be confronted with a wall of text or links pointing to every page throughout a website. However, they do not want to be left in the dark either. Finding a balance is essential. Not too little, but not too much.
02. Corporate Security
Many feel that the more official a company looks, the trust worthier it is. First impressions are every bit as important as we have all been led to believe. Your website should have a reliable and confident appearance, but should also have character.
03. Website Character
Why should people shop at your website? Why not the next one down on the search engine results list? Because you have character - something they don’t. You’re not just a website, you’re a company and a group of people who care. The type of merchandise or service you offer should be reflected in your character (as it should be in all of these points) and your visuals should represent this clearly.
04. A Logo
Why stop at just being a website when you could make yourself a brand name? The first step towards this is a good logo which complements your website design, character and primarily your goods or service.
05. Colour Scheme Relation
This is often the most difficult, yet the most important feature to achieve correctly and goes hand in hand with every other point above. It is something that often only an artistic eye and the correct logical approach can crack. Everything ties in.
06. Ease of Use
All websites should allow every area to be accessed with relevant ease. Nothing achieves this better than a good master navigation bar. Again, not too much but not too little applies.
